Humour, Misconceptions and Obsessive Interests – HAROLD & MAUDE
Greetings, fellow Citizen Auties, to help welcome in the New Year, the first event to roll into town is an online ‘watch along’ session of much-lauded dark comedy classic HAROLD AND MAUDE (1971) plus bonus short film at 8pm on Thursday, 13 January!
Run time: The entire event run-time comes to around 1hr 40 mins, both feature, short film and video clip combined.
Synopsis: – Filmed in the 1971, a time when American cinema was arguably at its edgiest and most creative (Two Lane Blacktop, Straw Dogs), HAROLD AND MAUDE is a blackly comic drama following the growing bond between a death-obsessed young man (Bud Cort) living a comfortable though somewhat mollycoddled life and a sprightly, bohemian octogenarian (Ruth Gordon).
With gallons of gallows humour (literally, in on scene) this ‘odd couple’ together explore their deeply macabre shared fascination with the deceased, striking up one of cinema’s all-time most memorable and taboo relationships along the way.
