Theme: Women and Girls with Autism
To coincide with Women’s History Month, the March watch-along session features films/videos relating to experiences of women and girls on the autism spectrum, with a short documentary film and TED talk preceding a feature-length BBC drama.
Film – Dustbin Baby (90mins): A feature-length BBC television drama based on the 2001 Jacqueline Wilson novel, following troubled teen April (Dakota Blue Richards) who found abandoned in a dustbin outside a pizza parlour as a newborn now lives with her foster mother.
Playing the part of classmate Poppy, remarkably Lizzy Clark was the first British actress with Asperger syndrome to portray a fictional character with the condition

The Chameleons: Women with autism (08mins): Short documentary portrait of three different generations of women living with autism and how the stigma of the condition is amplified.
“Copy & Paste’ Girls with Aspergers (10mins): A short TED talk given by Niamh McCann, a 16-year-old who speaks passionately on the many challenges that come with being a female on the autism spectrum.
