“Welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, well. To what do I owe the extreme pleasure of this surprising visit?”…Alex DeLarge, A Clockwork Orange
Ho, ho, ho!
To take advantage of these balmy summer days, I was thinking it would be a spiffing idea to go out for a leisurely stroll in the park along the banks of a nice, tranquil lake in an area that just to happens to have been a key location in Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece A Clockwork Orange!
So, with that in mind O, my brothers, I would like to extend an invitation to come join me for a film themed jaunt around Southemere Lake and park, Thamesmead at 11 am on Sunday, 23 July!
An East London new build town made up of a maze of Brutalist architecture typical of the 60s, Thamesmead would form the backdrop of several key scenes in Kubrick’s 1971 bleak dystopian social satire A Clockwork Orange, most notably a now utterly iconic sequence featuring the main protagonist Alex DeLarge prancing along the banks of a lake with his loyal droogs, Pete, Georgie and Dim, in tow.

Timings & Meeting Point: We will all meet outside Abbey Wood underground station at 11, and from there walk towards Binsey Walk and Southmere Lake and park. We will then set off for the park by no later than 11:10 so allowing 10 minutes or so for any latecomers.
It will take approximately fifteen minutes (0.8 miles) to walk from the station to the area of Southmere Lake, and from here I have scheduled for us to walk around the perimeter of the lake (including along Bazalgette Way) and explore the park for around 1.5 hours, before making our way back again to where we started on the other side of the lake.

As always with these more inform social events, people are of course free to come and go when they please, and people in attendance are entirely responsible for their own safety and security.
I really hope to see some familiar and not so familiar humanoids come Sunday, 23 and feel free to bring a friend or facilitator as a +1!
Until next time,
