FRANKENSTEIN Teaser Trailer (official trailer on release) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BN8K-4osNb0

FRANKENSTEIN (1931) Synopsis: Adapted for the big screen from the much-lauded early nineteenth century Gothic horror novel by English author Mary Shelley, FRANKENSTEIN is the story of young scientist Victor Frankenstein’s crackpot attempts at moulding into being a fully sapient creature from a random assortment of human body parts (think Gunther von Hagens only 100 times more twisted!).

Theme: Difference, Autism & Loving the Monster
The general theme of this month’s online watch along is ‘difference’, and looking to explore how those who are seen as somehow ‘other’ are often sidelined or else actively castigated simply for being who they are.

Frankenstein’s monster is arguably just such an outsider figure, and as Disability Studies theorists like Julia Miele Rodas propose (article link in the comments), there is a possible autistic reading of Frankenstein with the monster someone who speaks and acts differently to others (including a possible presence of Selective Mutism).

+ Short Films:
INSIDE THE HUMAN LAB: Created by the highly talented Joe Blandamer, a young filmmaker on the autism spectrum, Human Lab is a ‘stop motion animation showing what goes on inside a vivisection lab’. Be warned – this is not one for the faint of heart.

SUPERCRIPS: A short film described as ‘a heartfelt and honest depiction of people with invisible disabilities told by people with invisible disabilities’

BFI: FRANKENSTEIN is also showing at the BFI Southbank on Tuesday, 08 and Sunday, 27 November (not Relaxed screenings), however your most gracious host is unable to attend, so as with October those who may have missed or prefer to hang out in the online realm can do so!
