Theme: Autism Awareness Month
Coinciding with Autism Awareness Month, this April’s watch-along session features films/videos concerning a variety of personal experiences from those on the spectrum, with a well-known Animated short and two TED talks preceding a one-hour BBC documentary.
Film:
Chris Packham: Asperger’s and Me (2017): “A little bit weird”. “Like an alien”. These are words broadcaster and naturalist Chris Packham uses to describe his own character in this BBC documentary profile of someone not diagnosed until well into adulthood.
Clips:
A is for Autism (1992): Multi-award-winning film offering a brief glimpse into the world of autism, with all facets of its production involving people on the autism spectrum.
Invisible Diversity: A Story Of Undiagnosed Autism (2017): What is autism and why is it difficult to get it diagnosed? TED talk with Carrie, who shares her own struggles to attaining a diagnosis, one that was 35 years in the making.
What it’s really like to have autism | Ethan Lisi (2020): “Autism is not a disease; it’s just another way of thinking” TED talk with Ethan Lisi, who promotes a more inclusive way of understanding the spectrum.
Thanks once again all, and I hope to ‘see’ all your friendly anonymous avatars soon on Tues, 27!
As is common practice, please do RSVP to this event page if you wish to get a slice of the action, just so I get a good idea of the numbers.
