***(Post) Easter Cinema Treat – ILLUMINATING THE WILDERNESS at BFI Southbank***
Following on from the last ‘in the flesh’ visit to The Barbican in March, Citizen Autistic returns to the strange age-old ritual of gatherings of large bipedal mammals with a special, post-Easter outing to see the documentary ILLUMINATING THE WILDERNESS at the BFI Southbank (NFT3) plus post-film discussion, at 18:15 on Tuesday, 26 April!
ILLUMINATING THE WILDERNESS – Synopsis: A bracing forty-minute film following the enthusiastic exploration of Glen Affric, a remote Scottish Glen in the Scottish Highlands by an intrepid, diverse band of neurodiverse artists, filmmakers, families and carers.
Tagging along for the ride are artists Ben Rivers and Margaret Salmon in this playful, tender and often humorous film charting the rich sensory pleasures and challenges of neurodiverse individuals and their nuanced interactions with the surrounding landscape.

**POST SCREENING DISCUSSION + OPTIONAL INFORMAL DRINKS**:
As described on the webpage, immediately following the documentary is a post-screening discussion considering ‘perceptions of ‘wilderness’, experimental form and cultural inclusion’.
The documentary was made in partnership with Project Artworks, a collective of neurodiverse artists (several of whom feature in the film) and facilitators working to increase representation of neuro-minorities in art and culture. The group was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2021.
Informal drinks and (‘post-film post discussion’!) chat: An opportunity post-film and discussion to grab a drink and share opinions on the film and discussion and indeed our general experiences of autism, life on the spectrum and neurodivergence more generally. Time: approx. 8 – 9 pm.
Location: A quiet area within the BFI Bar & Kitchen area on the ground floor of the main BFI building easily accessible from the screening room (first floor, opposite the main entrance).
Timings: Please aim to arrive by around 6 pm (the film starts at 6:15). Runtime: 90 minutes (including discussion)
