March means movies here at Citizen Autistic, so, with that in mind I am pleased to extend an invitation to club members to come join me on Monday 20 March at The Barbican for a Relaxed screening of MARCEL THE SHELL WITH SHOES ON (Cinema 3) at 6:30 pm!
This will be a good chance to come together in a relaxed, autism-friendly space to watch what looks like a charming ‘little’ (being the operative word) stop-motion mockumentary about the colourful exploits of a one-inch high mollusc shell named Marcel …

Tickets cost £6.00, either payable online (£1.50 booking fee) or at the bookings desk on the day:

Seating: There is unreserved seating meaning it is not possible to reserve a certain seat, however as the screening is during the week and early evening, I imagine it is likely there will be plenty of space in auditorium to choose your preferred place. I will likely be seated a few rows from the front providing there is space. The films will have no ads or trailers beforehand, so expect the film to begin fairly promptly.
Timings: I would recommend people try to get there for 6:15 so we can all meet at the entrance to Cinema 3 ahead of the film’s start time (6:30).

Autism friendly space: The Barbican Cinemas 2 & 3 and cafe spaces, which is where the screening will take place are recipients of the National Autistic Society’s Autism Friendly award, and from my own personal experience it is often quite a relaxing, ‘low arousal’ environment: https://www.barbican.org.uk/our-story/press-room/barbican-cinemas-2-3-and-cafe-awarded-the-national-autistic-societys-autism
If you want to get a better sense of the venue space and accessibility I would recommend navigating to ‘See Inside’ and ‘Access’ tabs via the link I included further above. Directions are also detailed on the ‘Getting to the venue’ tab on the same page.
Once again, I look forward to seeing all you lovely fleshy hominids on Mon 20, and feel free to bring a friend or facilitator as a +1 as well if you like!
