Women & Girls with Autism
After a leave of absence (holidays and such), the London Autism Film Club is back in business with a new ‘Watch along’ – at 20:30 on Thursday 01 October for a virtual coming together to watch a couple of autism flavoured videos! ๐ฅ๐
The screening link (Watch2gether) for this playlist (One 1hr Documentary and a 20min TED talk) totalling approx. 80mins is here!:

Watch2gether: We will be using the watch2gether platform, and the films and videos will start promptly at 20:30, finishing around 21:25. No registration required – all you need to do is click on the screening link and it will take you straight to the playlist and add as an anonymous user.
I encourage people to enter the anonymous text chat, but if you don’t feel up to it then no worries, just sit back and enjoy! There is no voice/video chat function for this event, text chat ONLY ๐
Autism in Women & Girls: These videos have been selected to encourage healthy debate around the autism as it presents in females. Rates of autism (officially) among women and girls remain disproportionately far lower than men, with a diagnosis all too often missed until well into adulthood if at all.
- The video playlist opens with the 1-hour observational documentary โGirls With Autismโ, first aired on ITV and narrated by Olivia Coleman, this doc peers through the windows of Britainโs only single sex school for teenage girls with autism.
- The second video is a 20-minute TED talk given by prominent scientist and animal behaviour expert Temple Grandin who, first diagnosed with autism as a child makes a compelling case for the value of neurodiverse minds out there thriving in society and the workplace.
- BONUS: an interesting website showcasing the work of female film critic Georgia Kumari, who also happens to be autistic: http://autisticfilmcritic.com/about/
